The Republic of Sabah North Borneo Government-in-Exile (RSNB-GiE) has taken note of media reports dated 10 October 2026 concerning statements by Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs), expressing willingness to engage with overseas groups claiming government-in-exile status.

RSNB-GiE acknowledges the reported openness to discussion and considers that any potential engagement should be clarified through official written communication.

The organisation maintains its stated commitment to peaceful, lawful and democratic advocacy concerning the historical, constitutional and self-determination questions affecting North Borneo.

As the reported remarks have not been accompanied by an invitation specifically addressed to RSNB-GiE, the organisation does not regard formal negotiations as having commenced.

Any decision concerning participation in future discussions would be subject to internal authorisation, legal advice, and mutually agreed procedures concerning the scope, representation, location and conduct of the meeting.
