About RSNB-GIE

Who we are and what we stand for

Who We Are

The Republic of Sabah North Borneo Government-in-Exile (RSNB-GIE) is the legitimate governing body representing the aspirations and rights of the people of Sabah. Established and proclaimed in Melbourne, Australia on 13 September 2025, we serve as the official voice for Sabah's path to self-determination and independence.

We represent the millions of Sabahans — at home and across the diaspora — who believe in the fundamental right of every people to determine their own political future. Our government-in-exile operates within the frameworks established by international law, drawing upon decades of legal scholarship, historical evidence, and the lived experience of the Sabahan people.

Our membership spans Sabahans living in Australia, the United Kingdom, North America, and across Southeast Asia, united by a common vision of a free, sovereign, and prosperous Sabah.

Our Mission

Our mission is to peacefully advocate for the full self-determination and independence of the people of Sabah through democratic, legal, and diplomatic means. We uphold international law, human rights principles, and the right of all peoples to determine their own political destiny.

We pursue this mission through sustained engagement with the international community, documentation of historical and contemporary grievances, and the building of a broad coalition of support among Sabahans, sympathetic governments, and human rights organizations worldwide.

At the heart of our mission is a commitment to non-violence. We believe that the cause of Sabahan independence is ultimately one of justice — and that justice can only be achieved through peaceful, lawful, and democratic means.

Our Values

Peaceful Advocacy

We are firmly committed to non-violent means of achieving our goals. Every action we take is guided by the principles of peaceful dialogue, legal process, and democratic participation.

Legal Framework

Our claims are grounded in international law, including the UN Charter's provisions on self-determination and the legal obligations arising from the Malaysia Agreement of 1963.

Democratic Process

We believe in the democratic right of the Sabahan people to freely express their will regarding their political status, and we advocate for internationally supervised processes to this end.

International Solidarity

We work to build bridges with the international community, allied independence movements, and human rights bodies to amplify the Sabahan voice on the world stage.

Our Leadership

The RSNB-GIE is governed by a Council composed of elected representatives drawn from the Sabahan diaspora and recognized advocates for Sabahan rights. The Council is headed by a President and supported by a Vice President and a body of Ministers responsible for key areas including legal affairs, international relations, communications, and community engagement.

Our leadership brings together lawyers, academics, community leaders, and activists with decades of combined experience in international law, human rights advocacy, and diaspora organizing. The governing council operates transparently and is accountable to its membership and the broader Sabahan community it represents.

Detailed profiles of our leadership team will be published as the organization continues to formalize its structures in accordance with our founding proclamation. For inquiries regarding leadership and governance, please contact us directly.
