In my capacity as Minister of Justice and International Law of the Republic of Sabah North Borneo Government-in-Exile, I welcome the successful and peaceful event held in Canberra on 26 September 2026.
The event achieved its objective of highlighting the history and aspirations of the people of Sabah and Sarawak. The Historic Flag Ceremony conveyed part of that history through the flags and invited the public to reflect on the political future of our homeland. In Canberra, our message was delivered clearly: Let Borneo Speak. Let the World Listen.
Flags carry memory, identity and questions of political authority. The ceremony invited us to examine the historical record, listen to the voices of the people concerned, and discuss their future openly. Read the history of our homeland and examine all the evidence. Historical and legal claims must be carefully tested against documentary evidence, while the wishes of the people must be heard through peaceful and democratic means.
I would like to thank Sabah Sarawak Keluar Malaysia - SSKM Australia, Borneo Rights Action Force - BORAF and Sabah Sarawak Rights Australia & New Zealand - SSRANZ for their support of this event. I also extend my appreciation to the organisers, participants and everyone who contributed to its success.
Let us continue together in a peaceful struggle to achieve the full sovereign independence that we believe has been delayed since 1963. Let us pursue this aspiration with knowledge, unity and respect for the right of the people to determine their own future.
