Additional legal actions and filings in pursuit of Sabah's rights

Domestic Court Proceedings

While the Malaysian judicial system operates under significant constraints when it comes to constitutional challenges that threaten the structure of the federation, legal advocates have pursued various domestic remedies on behalf of Sabahan rights. These cases, though often unsuccessful in the domestic courts, serve to build the public record and exhaust domestic remedies — a prerequisite for many international legal mechanisms.

Inter-State Complaints

The RSNB-GIE is exploring avenues for inter-state complaints under international human rights treaties to which Malaysia is a party. Where Malaysia has accepted the jurisdiction of relevant treaty bodies, we are examining whether state-to-state complaint mechanisms can be activated by sympathetic governments on behalf of the Sabahan people.

Investment and Trade Law

The systematic exploitation of Sabah's natural resources in violation of the rights of its people may give rise to claims under international investment and trade law frameworks. Our legal team is examining these avenues as part of a comprehensive strategy to hold the responsible parties accountable and to seek compensation for the Sabahan people.
